Battle System
On Ardor, we use the Word Count battling system.
In simple terms, every word you type in-battle gives you another EXP point.
This is not your entire post, just the battling section of it. So if you type three paragraphs describing the trees, and one for the battle itself, only that last paragraph will go towards your EXP.
You are responsible for keeping track of EXP and levelling up/changing moves about/evolving etc. However, while we're still a small site, mods will try to tally up the amount of EXP they think you have earned. A well-written battle scene may even be awarded with extra EXP!
Level 2 - 20 EXP Level 3 - 50 EXP Level 4 - 100 EXP Level 5 - 150 EXP Level 6 - 200 EXP Level 7 - 250 EXP Level 8 - 300 EXP Level 9 - 350 EXP Level 10 - 400 EXP

Contests
Since we're still fairly new, we don't actually have any contests set up yet.
However, as we gather some more members, we will try to start adding in some contests and some kind of ribbon collection/prize for you to get your teeth into. If your character is a 'Coordinator' type, though, they are still allowed to battle gyms! So don't be afraid of making a Coordinator now~

Hatching eggs
<mysteryegg>
Every now and again, you may be given a Mystery Egg. These will either be given out randomly, or as contest prizes and the like. You may also gain eggs through breeding in the Daycare, by trading with other characters or by purchasing them from the PokeShop.
When you obtain an egg, you will be given a thread count! This means you must complete that number of threads, playing as the character with the egg, before it gains enough maturity to hatch. For example;
Catori has a mystery egg that she bought from the PokeShop with a thread count of four. Remedy must put Catori in four threads whilst carrying the egg (it's a good idea to put in some sort of note stating that you have an egg with you). Once the four threads are over, she PMs Meteor with links to all four threads and politely asks if her egg is ready to hatch yet. Meteor will reply with the species, gender and base attacks of the egg~
If you gain an egg and already know what species it is (i.e. from the daycare or another character), please add that in! Meteor will handle all egg-hatching requests, although I may help her out now and again. If the egg is a mystery, you may suggest what Pokemon it could be. However, this is not a guaruntee and you could be given anything!
Eggs hatch at level one! [/size]

Evolution
Evolution is fairly simple.
Most evolutions follow the same as the games. Evolving by level is easy enough to understand, and you decide whether or not your Pokemon evolves then or later.
Evolution by item is also pretty easy. Once you have the item (you may be modded one, or buy them from the PokeShop, etc.), just 'use' it on your Pokemon and remove it from your character's inventory. If you gain an item from an event whilst using one character, but have a second that needs it more, you are allowed to 'give' the item to your other character. Bear in mind that Pokemon do no work in the same way, however.
Pokemon that evolve in Mt. Coronet/Chargestone Cave may evolve in Naran Cave.
Leafeon and Glaceon may evolve by leaf stone and shiny stone respectively (similar to the GPX+ if you are on there).
Pokemon that need to be traded must either be traded in-character or have a Link Cable used on them (which will act like a normal item and be 'used up'). If using a Link Cable on a Pokemon that also requires an item, you need both items to evolve.
Example; Sneasel may only evolve into Weavile when either the trainer trades it whilst holding a Razor Claw, or when the trainer has both a Razor Claw and a Link Cable in their inventory.

Happiness
Pokemon that evolve by happiness are a little more complicated.
Pokemon have a max happiness of 200 points, and this is the point they evolve at. When you obtain a Pokemon, it will have a certain level of happiness;
- Pre-made, traded*, given* or bought Pokemon start with zero points.
- Hatched Pokemon start with ten points.
- Caught wild, befriended wild or rescued Pokemon start with twenty points.
*If someone has a Pokemon with max happiness, and then trades/gives it away to another character, its happiness will go back down to zero. This is because it has to get used to a new trainer!
Each thread you make will earn you happiness points! Having your Pokemon out of its Pokeball with your character will earn it twenty points. Having the Pokemon with you but not out of its Pokeball will earn it ten points.
Well-written or interesting points may be rewarded with extra happiness points! Also, there are plenty of items to speed this along, and letting your Pokemon run around in the PokePark will also give them extra happiness.
