Non-Playable Characters!
Okay, I thought I should put this thread up just to explain how NPCs work on Ardor. You can view all characters who have been classed as NPCs in this thread.
Thing is, NPCs aren't technically NPCs. Eventually, every character who takes on some sort of role within Ardor (professors, gym leaders, and the like) will be an actual character - not just an image and a description of what they do, but a fully developed character who belongs to someone on the forum, whether an admin, mod or just a regular member. They simply have an NPC-like role on the site.
Now, while that's an ambition, we just don't have the resources to do that yet. Also, we would run into problems if, for instance, the person who owned the first gym leader was ill or on hiatus and therefore couldn't reply to gym challenge threads.
So here's our system:
Some 'non-playable characters' currently exist but they will be replaced as-and-when. Characters that do not have profiles are classed as NPCs. As Ardor grows in numbers, we will hold auditions either for people to take over and expand upon the NPC already in place, or to replace them with their own character.
Any character listed in the 'NPC' thread here can be modded by any member of staff within threads. Basically what this means is that, say, I own Viracocha Haluna as a character, and only I would do her personal, character/relationship-building threads. However, other members of staff can 'mod' her during gym battles, meaning people can still go after their fourth badge without having to wait for me. Obviously, modded NPCs will still have to stick to the original personality and such, but their posts will probably be far less detailed.
I hope this explains things!
