Frequently Asked Questions These may be updated in the future. You will be notified if they are!
So what is an 'Ardor'? Ardor is a fan-made country set in the Pokemon world. This forum is set within Ardor, and is a place where roleplayers can get together and interact with each others' characters and Pokemon!
How do I join? There's a little button with 'register' on it. Click that and follow the instructions - it's free! You won't be able to post in most of Ardor without becoming a registered member.
I'm registered! Now what? I would suggest that you read through the other threads in this board. They are a little lengthy, but we've tried our best to split them up into sizeable chunks to make them easier to read through.
How do I make a character? Once you have a character idea in your head, go to this thread and copy the Profile Template. Then make a new thread (there should be a button for it in the top right corner) in the Applications board, and start filling it out for your character!
OOH, there's a gym leader templa-- HOLD UP. Gym Leaders have their own template up, yes, but those positions are not currently open! We'll post up an announcement when they are! Auditions may be for new Gym Leaders to add to the region (since we currently only have six), or to expand on or replace the existing NPCs!
What about the Pokemon template, then? Go ahead! You can play a Pokemon straight away!
What's the difference between Trainer, Breeder and Coordinator? Right now, there is not much difference between the three. However, trainers are more likely to challenge gyms and collect/evolve lots of Pokemon for their Pokedexes. They might also be more interested in tournaments. Breeders will be more likely to catch specific Pokemon and breed for others, or to gain large families of Pokemon. Coordinators will mainly concentrate on movesets for contests, obviously. All types can drift into the others - trainers can do contests, coordinators can do gym battles - but each may have specific events in the future!
Do I have to list their entire family? Not at all! Some people find it easier to do so, but the 'family' section is predominantly for relations within Ardor. For example, Viracocha and Peleko are sisters, but are roleplayed by different people (i.e. Remedy and myself).
Do I have to start without any Pokemon? No, you don't! Pokemon that are created within a profile like this are commonly referred to as 'pre-mades'. Pre-mades may be no higher than level 45. Also, if you only have a couple of pre-mades that are under level ten, you may pick up another Pokemon from the lab.
I've finished my profile! Now what? Wait! Your character profile needs to be approved by a member of staff before you can start roleplaying. Don't fret if your character isn't accepted straight away - we'll help you tweak things!
My character was accepted! Let's roleplay! HOLD ON. I would strongly suggest that either before or during your first thread, you create an inventory for that character!
What are inventories for? Inventories are good ways to keep track of your current items and money. Money is shared between all of your characters, but items are not. You can also use these spaces to keep track of a few other things, like Pokedex completion (if you're interested in that) or party/PC Pokemon. You can use the Relationships board to keep track of character friends and enemies!
If I'm not getting a Starter Pack, what do I put in my inventory? If you've started with pre-mades and therefore haven't picked up a Starter Pack, you are allowed to put some items in your inventory already. These should be common things - some Poke Balls/Great Balls, some Super Potions, etc. Nothing rare, and not too many. If you're not sure, ask!
How do I get a Starter Pokemon? To receive a Starter Pokemon, create a thread within Hollowcreek Village with your character visiting the lab somehow. A moderator will respond as one or both of the resident Professors, allowing you to roleplay as normal. The moderator will typically generate three Pokemon for you to choose from, with differing personalities. You will also receive the Starter Pack here!
Do I have to start in Hollowcreek Village? Not at all! If you're starting with pre-mades, then feel free to start anywhere within reason (that means not in the middle of the mountain or anything, guys). Shirona Port is the main dock for the ferry, so those travelling from other regions may do well to start there~
Do I have to start a new thread? Not at all! Although it is suggested that you start a new thread when attempting to receive a Starter Pokemon, in all other boards, you may jump into the threads of others. It is up to you whether or not you wish to PM the thread starter before you join them. Threads marked 'closed' are intended for specific members only, and you should avoid those unless you've been asked to take part!
Can I start a thread in one city, then skip all the routes and do the next in the next city? Nope, sorry guys! You should be travelling board-by-board, like you would in real life. This gives you more time to train, interact with others, and enhance your roleplaying skills~ Also, it's more akin to real life, where it actually takes some time to move around. The only exceptions are for event boards and characters will highly-levelled Pokemon (50+), who are allowed to move two boards at a time.
What is an event board? An 'event board' is a board, or set of boards, where an event is taking place. For example, a fairground may come to town, or the ferry may be taking a special voyage around the region. In these cases, a news post will be made to announce the event, and any character may skip directly to the board(s) where the event is taking place. Some may require a ticket or signups prior to entry, but you'll be given plenty of time to sort that out before the event starts~
How do I register as a Coordinator? To register as a co-ordinator, go to the Contest Bureau in Fleurvale. There are other bureaus around the region, but registration takes place here. A moderator will respond as an NPC to give you your Coordinator badge and Prop Case.
What do I need my word count for? On Ardor, word count is only used for calculating EXP. If you're not in a battle, you don't need to keep track of your word count! If you do get into a battle, keep a note of your word count for each post somewhere (either at the end of your post, or in your inventory!) so they can be tallied up to give you the correct amount of EXP!
